ABOUT THE WESSEX CTC
We are the Wessex division of the Cyclists’ Touring Club of Great Britain and we were founded in 1911. Our region comprises the entire beautiful county of Dorset as well as parts of south Wiltshire and Somerset and the National Park of the ancient New Forest. We offer all forms of touring and recreational cycling of a generally non competitive nature, as well as campaigning for cycling facilities and have over 1200 members in the area divided betwen our main riding groups in  Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch (Bournemouth Section), in Dorchester and Weymouth (West Dorset Section), Salisbury (Salisbury Section), and Somerset (Blackmore Vale Section)
Within each area section there are a variety of different groups to choose from, offering a different pace or style. Click on the area that interests you and study the runs lists for each week and all will become clear. We allow you to sample our rides for a few weeks and join us as a guest, but then we expect that you will become a member of the CTC.
Additionally, the Wessex DA as a region promotes a full calendar of touring and Audax events which are open to any cyclist. Some of these events are well-known and long standing classics.
As we are on the South Coast of England, our cycle rides cannot travel south without us getting very wet. To counter this we often arrange visits to France using the Poole-Cherbourg route, and organise cycle rides on the Cotentin peninsula and surrounding area. Also, we are fortunate to have a long standing twinning agreement with the Union Cyclotourism de Saint Lô and so exchange visits are a regular feature of our calendar.
AWARDS The Wessex DA offers four main awards each year to anyone in our sections:
Ron Cook Rosebowl - For promoting the image of Wessex DA through cycling.
Arthur Moss Shield - awarded to the most actively involved junior member.
Don Dickenson Award - For the best Newsletter article. Details
George Keith Award - For the most counties cycled in each year. Details.
